Seamoriow Football Club delivered an impressive campaign at the 2025 Discovery Cup, reaching the final of the competition after a series of disciplined and hard-fought performances, before narrowly losing to Ojodu City in a dramatic penalty-decided finale.
The Lagos-based side began their Discovery Cup journey on 11 December 2025 with a slim but crucial 1–0 victory over Schimchi FC, setting the tone for a competitive group-stage outing. Their second match on 12 December ended in a 2–1 defeat to Inspire FC, a result that briefly threatened their progression.
However, Seamoriow responded emphatically on 14 December, recording a commanding 3–0 win over Shigo FC, a performance that underlined the team’s growing cohesion and tactical discipline.
On 15 December, Seamoriow faced D2R FC in the semi-final earlier in the day. After a tightly contested encounter ended goalless in regulation time, Seamoriow held their nerve in the penalty shootout, emerging victorious 4–3 on penalties to book a place in the final.
Later the same day, Seamoriow took on Ojodu City FC in the final. The match ended 1–1 in regulation time, before Ojodu City edged a thrilling penalty shootout 6–5, denying Seamoriow the trophy by the narrowest of margins.
Despite the final setback, Head Coach Mathew Tolulope, who oversees both the senior team and the academy structure including the U-15 side, praised his players’ commitment and growth throughout the tournament.
“We showed character, discipline and belief throughout the Discovery Cup,” Tolulope said. “Playing a semi-final and final on the same day is never easy, but the boys gave everything. This is a strong foundation for where the club is heading.”

Structural Reforms Signal New Direction
Seamoriow’s Discovery Cup run comes at a time of bold reforms and restructuring within the club. In a strategic shift focused on long-term development, the club recently scrapped its U-20 team, promoting its U-17 squad to form the core of the senior Seamoriow FC, while retaining only a few players from the previous U-20 setup.
Under the new structure, Seamoriow Football Club and Academy will now operate the U-19, U-17, U-15 and U-10 teams, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots development and elite youth progression
Club Proprietor Oluwaseyi Amos described the reforms as a deliberate step towards sustainability and identity.
“We are building Seamoriow around development, discipline and opportunity,” Amos stated. “Our focus is on preparing young players properly, both technically and mentally, and the performances we’re seeing are proof that the plan is working.”
U-15 Team Continues Remarkable Rise
The club’s youth vision has been particularly evident in the performances of its U-15 team, which has enjoyed an outstanding year. According to the club’s Technical Director, Coach Olojo-Kosoko Olanrewaju, the ambition is clear.
“Our goal is to build the best U-15 team in Nigeria,” Olanrewaju said. “So far this year, the boys have not lost a single match, and their consistency shows the quality of work being done.”
On the same day the senior team lost the Discovery Cup final, Seamoriow’s U-15 side produced a dominant display at the Legacy Practice Pitch, defeating Super Soccer FA 6–0.
Samuel Archibong and Godwin Goodnews both scored braces, while Atanda Sultan and Atakan Malik added a goal each.
Earlier in September 2025, the Seamoriow U-15 team had already marked a major milestone by winning the Seamoriow U-15 League for the first time in four years, further underlining the club’s resurgence at youth level.
Looking Ahead
While the Discovery Cup trophy ultimately eluded them, Seamoriow FC’s run to the final, combined with sweeping structural reforms and youth success, signals a club on a clear upward trajectory. With a strong academy pipeline and a renewed footballing philosophy, Seamoriow appears well-positioned for sustained growth in Nigeria’s grassroots and developmental football landscape.
